What is it? Waldeck stands for an open concept that offers free space for all kinds of projects and rehearsals, a stage for all kinds of artists and cultural events, a creative, unique atmosphere and - last but not least - lots of party and fun included. The area is surrounded by woods and meadows and quite nearby are the remains of an old castle (that's how „Burg Waldeck“ got its name, by the way). The houses and facilities are autonomously self-managed by „Arbeitsgemeinschaft Burg Waldeck e.V.(ABW)“ (the working committee of Burg Waldeck). What's happening? Since the 20s alternative ways of living have been explored by various youth movements. In the 60s, Waldeck became famous for its international folk and chanson festivals featuring Degenhardt, Wader and Hüsch. Today, there are all kinds of concerts and a great variety of styles, like singer-songwriter, rock, punk and rap, and even theater, cabaret and literary performances. Everybody's welcome to act as an organizer or artist – Waldeck offers the opportunity and the environment to have your share in it. This house has room for 58 guests, mainly in dorms. It has a little hall (about 100 m²), a fireside lounge, a café and a large patio. Facing Saeulenhaus, the smaller but nonetheless cozy Schwabenhaus can accommodate up to 23 guests. It has its own seminar room with a fireplace, a kitchen and an outdoor barbecue. There's optional catering, too. For theater and music ensembles, there is an indoor stage area (circa 80 m²). It can be opened for performances and about 200 people can be seated in the outside amphitheater. The kitchen We offer regular, wholefood, organic and vegetarian catering (tell us when you're booking). If you like to cook your own food, there's a separate kitchen, too. Waldeck has lots of camping sites, too, some of them being remote glades in the woods. Working material like beamers, VCRs, overhead projectors, photocopy machine, e-piano and stereos can be provided, and there's a quality PA as well. (Arrangements are recommended to be made in advance, for there might be others who would like to use the equipment as well.) Please note: Bring your own sleeping bags or sheets. You should do your own dishes, clean your rooms when you leave and you are liable for any damage you cause. Dogs are to be on a leash at all times and may not enter the houses. |
